DRY
Wednesday, February 26th
The definition of dry is "free from moisture or liquid; not wet or moist". So a dry wine is a paradox, and January being "DRY" should be Prohibition Jan!
Now, do you see how an exploration into what we perceive as "dry" in Wine and Sake is interesting?
Plus, January is a tough enough month already, so why remove joyous alcoholic beverages from the equation?
Instead....
Join award-winning sommelier, Cong Cong Bo, and Stefano Pasqual, Head Sommelier of Gordon Ramsey's Lucky Cat, for a flight of wines and sakes that will inform and challenge your experience of DRY in 2025.
Wine is defined as dry when it contains less than 4 grams of sugar in a litre, yet it doesn’t always taste dry.
You’re more likely to perceive a wine, or indeed sake, as sweet when there are abundant fruit, honey, and other aromas, which you would normally associate with sweet taste - a phenomenon Cong calls 'associative sweetness'.
There will now be a bonus whisky or two to end the tasting and highlight the concept!
Stefano is a sake expert, when he selects a sake, it's a delight for all the senses.
I can say with pleasure, it surprised me just how delicious and robust sake can be.
And, did you know that high levels of acidity can reduce the taste of sugar?
This sake and wine tasting will educate, explore, and engage your perception of dryness.
